When I was younger, I fondly remember seeing a cartoon at a friend's house but I can't remember its name. So I'm desperately wondering if anybody can help me out.

I think it was a weird version of Sinbad, released somewhere between 1985 and 2005. The main character was a boy with short blonde hair and he had two friends, a girl with long black hair and an older man with somewhat long brown hair. They also had a pet monkey-bird who could talk; I'm not sure if that's what it was called but it was brown, it had wings, and a voracious appetite for some kind of fruit. They traveled on a ship and had various adventures but the main villain was some fat dude who had an even bigger ship that could "eat" other, smaller ships by opening a big gate in its front. All the characters had kind-of an Asian look and they spoke English.

I'm not sure if that's enough to go on. And I have no idea why I'm remembering this cartoon right now, but I really really want to see it again and I would be very thankful if anybody knows its name.

Edit: Oh wow, "monkey-bird" in Google would have worked quite easily. Now I feel stupid for not trying that
